Bird Talk: Birds of the Extremadura, Spain

On Sunday, May 8, 2022, join David Lindo on Pelee Island for a visual tour of the Extremadura, a remote region of western Spain that shelters an astonishing diversity of birdlife.

Best known as the Urban Birder, David Lindo lives in Mérida, the capital city of Extremadura. He leads birding tours around the world as well as in his own region, a fascinating and little-known part of Spain that harbours a variety of bird habitat—mountains, forests, rice fields, lakes, and wildlife reserves, notably Monfragüe Natural Park. Cornalvo Natural Park, also in Extremadura, is designated a Special Protection Area for Birds and is home to 175 species, including Blue kites, Griffon vultures, and Booted eagles. The park also features the Roman-built Cornalvo Dam.

David will be on Pelee Island as Guest Birder for the Springsong 2022 weekend, May 6-8, and will present his talk at the Pelee Island Winery on Sunday morning.

A naturalist and photographer, David is author of How To Be an Urban Birder and was voted the 7th most influential person in wildlife by BBC Wildlife magazine. He is vice-president of Britain’s Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust and a Fellow of the International League of Conservation Writers. As well as making birding in cities as exciting as tromping through jungles and inland marshes, David writes extensively on birds through his regular columns in Nature’s Home, Bird Watching Magazine (UK), and Bird Watchers Digest (US). In 2020, he was shortlisted for the Professional Publishers Association (PPA) Columnist of the Year Award. A tireless advocate for birds, he speaks to audiences large and small about urban birding and the plight of birds in today’s world.
