Had a great time bird watching this afternoon at Malden Park! We saw many American Robins, Red-Winged Blackbirds, Kinglets, Nuthatch and a Titmouse.

What a beautiful day for bird watching! The small What a beautiful day for bird watching! 
The small trail at Elizabeth Kishkon Park is ideal for identifying different species.  I saw Red-Winged Blackbirds, Downy Woodpeckers, American Robins, and various other species! A very useful app for identifying the birds you see and hear is Merlin. Merlin can be found on both the app and play store.

Birder in training/ Community Activator, Lakshmi g Birder in training/ Community Activator, Lakshmi got some first hand experience birding in an urban park during a snowstorm on Sunday. Jennifer, PIBO’s former Urban Bird Coordinator joined in to share her knowledge on local birds. We saw over a dozen species including a red tailed hawk and an immature bald eagle!

Bird owners are legally required to notify authori Bird owners are legally required to notify authorities of diseases such as the avian flu. If your bird is showing symptoms you must take them to a veterinarian or the Canadian Food Inspection Agency Animal Health office. 

All are encouraged to contact Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative (CWHC) in the case of finding a sick or dead wild bird.

This backpack full of supplies for birdwatching is This backpack full of supplies for birdwatching is going to the John McGivney Children’s Centre school! We also included a bonus bird feeder and a two year subscription to Project Feederwatch so the students can participate in Citizen Science projects! This was made possible through funding by the Windsor Essex Community Foundation.
