“Otter at Play,” by Garnet Tobacco, Cree Nation. Born in northern Manitoba into the same tradition as Norval Morrisseau and Isaac Bignell, with whom Garnet Tobacco worked closely, Garnet Tobacco adopted Bignell’s use of sponges instead of brushes to achieve his trademark ethereal softness and flow. With this technique, he captures the fluid movement, the bright eyes, the sinewy power and grace of the sea otter. Acrylic on stretched canvas, 16 x 20 inches. Value $425
