Guided Birding Tour on Pelee Island with Rob Tymstra

This item to benefit the Pelee Island Heritage Centre

A Guided Bird Tour of Pelee Island, with Rob Tymstra. Master birder and naturalist Rob Tymstra has chased birds in more than 70 countries and has participated in wildlife inventory expeditions in some of the world’s remotest areas. While bumbling around in remote Himalayan valleys and Indonesian islands, he rediscovered some ‘lost’ birds and was inducted as a Fellow into the Explorers Club and the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. “But no place thrills me more than Pelee Island,” he says, where he now lives in a totally off-grid home.

Pelee Island is one of the world’s finest birding areas, especially in May when thousands of birds stop on their way to their summer nesting grounds farther north. With luck, you might witness a reverse migration, a mysterious phenomenon where birds temporarily fly south instead of north. On a good day, it is possible to spot over 100 species, including many warbler species, tanagers, orioles, grosbeaks and, hopefully, some rarer species.

A four-hour guided tour for one to four people, dates to be determined.
