Dennis Minty books
Newfoundland: An Island Apart, and Labrador, The Big Land, by Dennis Minty.
Born in Twillingate, Newfoundland, Dennis Minty is a celebrated photographer, author, and biologist. He has worked as an environmental educator in Newfoundland/Labrador, Africa, the Seychelles, and the Caribbean, has been a polar-bear guide in Churchill, Manitoba, and is the author of nine educational and photographic books. “I think that everything we do in life can help shape our vision, ethics, skills and commitments,” he says. “My goal in creating an image is, not simply to document, but to inspire an emotional response in the viewer that might echo what I feel when I am making the image. I think that outstanding photography should communicate through the eye to the heart and bring new awareness and respect for our amazing world.
While Dennis has traveled widely, the two places that inspire him most are Newfoundland/Labrador and the Arctic. Newfoundland, An Island Apart travels from the colourful streets of St. John’s to the vibrant communities “around the bay” – with some hidden gems in between. Labrador: The Big Land presents Labrador in all its vivid colour and grandeur.
